There was something different about this flag. It was the traditional red, white and blue colors and design of which we have all become so familiar, but Charlotte Chaney, local framing expert, noticed something was different.
The difference was the stars on that field of blue. They numbered 48, not 50. Mrs. Chaney was tasked with preserving and framing this United States flag.
The flag last draped the coffin of Mary Jane Lennox in 1937. Ms. Lennox served as a nurse in the Spanish American War (1899-1902). See the Dec. 10 edition of the Optic-Herald for more details
