Arbor Day was celebrated in Mount Vernon with the planting of three oak trees at Little Creek Park on Friday, April 30.
The employees of the City of Mount Vernon were hosts for the event. Mayor J. D. Baumgardner read a proclamation and spoke about the history of Arbor Day. Aron Flanders, a wildlife biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, addressed the  more than 40 attendees about the benefit that trees provide to the environment.
