Steve W. Austin has assumed duties as the Veteran Service Officer for local Franklin County Veterans. He is to have a dual role as both the Titus and Franklin County  VSO.
The Franklin County Commissioners Court worked out the agreement after the retirement of local VSO Clint Hopkins on Nov. 1, 2010.
A Titus County native, Mr. Austin, age 62, is a 1967 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. He continued his education and graduated from Paris Junior College in 1970. See the Jan. 6 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for a feature article about Mr. Austin.
