A birthday celebration for George Wims has been planned for Saturday, July 23 in the Century Room on Kaufman St. from 1 to 2:30 p.m. to celebrate his 80th birthday. The community is encouraged to attend the event. “I have seen a lot of changes in Franklin County since I was born in Lavada,” George Wims said of his almost 80 years spent in the area. “Lavada doesn’t even exist anymore,” he added. Mr. Wims will turn 80 on July 25.
Mr. Wims’ birthplace was about two miles west of Talco on Hwy. 71. He was born to George and Addie McFerrin Wims. His father was a native of Franklin County, and his mother grew up in Gouldsboro which was about two miles east of Talco in Titus County.
