Old man winter made a brief appearance and a hasty retreat this week in Franklin County. Bitter north winds escorted low temperatures into the region on Saturday. Most of Sunday was cool and clear with winter precipitation falling overnight into Monday morning. One-quarter inch of ice and snow accumulated, but quickly melted Monday morning. Temperatures were expected to reach the 60s by the end of the week.
