Letters on the “Welcome to Mt. Vernon” sign were permanently installed by Carl Martin with Sign Express of Mount Pleasant Friday, Aug. 29. The heavy black 12” letters stand out against a lighter sand colored brick surrounded by red brick on the newly constructed wall.
The wall includes four decorative carriage lights - one atop each column. It is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Hwy. 37 and Main St. /Hwy. 67 and replaces a stone wall which was falling apart. The original idea for a welcome wall was spearheaded by the Arts in the Community Committee of the Franklin County Arts Alliance.
