Mount Vernon Optic-Herald

Franklin County was approved Monday, Dec. 21 for a $115,737 grant through the Ark-Tex Council of Governments. The county was second on the priority scoring list for the region, with 84 points, according to grant writer Fire Marshal Gerry Allen.The grant is from 2009 Homeland Security Funding Allocations. These funds were designated by the Franklin County Commissioners Court to be used to improve communications for the county’s four volunteer fire departments.
