The Alzheimer’s Women’s Association for Resources and Education honored All-American champion and Mount Vernon native Don Meredith at their 2010 luncheon on Wednesday, April 28 at the Fairmont hotel in Dallas.
A contingent of people from Mount Vernon attended the affair, and Mayor J. D. Baumgardner, Ken Greer, and Tom Ramsay were listed among those hosting the event.
Phyllis George, the 1971 Miss American and one of the first women sportscasters, was the emcee for the event. A celebrity panel consisting of Frank Gifford, Walt Garrison, Bob Lilly and Roger Staubach presented the program which consisted of video tributes, stories and anecdotes about Mr. Meredith’s colorful career in football and broadcasting.
“It was a great day for Mount Vernon,” Mr. Baumgardner said. “The tribute paid to our city and community in front of a ballroom full of people was priceless.”
Health issues prevented Mr. Meredith from attending the event. His wife, Susan, was in attendance, and the event was videotaped for him. See the May 6 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.
