Jasper Scott and B.F. Hicks were elected to council seats, and J. D. Baumgardner was confirmed as mayor for the Mount Vernon City Council Saturday.
A special meeting of the Council is set for 9 a.m. Friday, May 14 at City Hall for these men to take their formal oath of office. All four of the candidates for the two council seats were within 10 votes of one another and the top three within five votes of each other.
Neither of the two unsuccessful candidates have indicated they plan to request a recount. The deadline to request a recount is 5 p.m. today, Thursday, May 13, according to City Manager Lee Elliott. See the May 13 edition of the Optic-Herald for more details.
