About 100 persons gathered at the Cultural Arts Center to enjoy cake, ice cream and celebrate the history of the City of Mount Vernon.
The gathering served as the official kick-off for the city’s charter centennial celebration May 29. A slide show of historic photos of Mount Vernon was presented to the group. City Administrator Lee Elliott welcomed the guests and Mayor J. D. Baumgardner made opening remarks and read his proclamation of the charter centennial. He was honored to perform the official cake cutting for the centennial “birthday cake.” Cake and ice cream was served to all in attendance. See the June 3 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for more information.
