Texas Governor Rick Perry ordered that all United States and Texas flags be lowered to half-staff and remain at half-staff through Friday, July 2 in memory of former Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe. The former governor, who served Texas from 1972 to 1978, died at his home in Uvalde, Tex., at the age of 87, on Sunday, June 27. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, July 1 at the Saint Phillip’s Episcopal Church in Uvalde. A reception will follow at the Uvalde Country Club. The family suggests memorials to the Kate Marmion Regional Cancer Medical Center, 1025 Garner Field Road, Uvalde, Tex., 78801 or to the Dolph and Janey Briscoe Western Art Museum, 315 E. Commerce, San Antonio, Tex., 78205.
