The City of Mount Vernon will provide approved numbering to mark structures. This is for the convenience of property owners and to encourage them to meet code requirements for Emergency 911 addressing.
The offer is good for as long as the supply of numbers lasts. “We just got a new batch of these numbers; so, the city should have a good supply for a while,” noted Andy Trampus, public works and sustainability director for the city.
All homes and businesses within city limits are required to have premises identification placed on buildings. “Easily legible lettering or numbers are essential for rapid response of emergency personnel, utility and waste contractors and public works departments,” Mr. Trampus stressed.
According to the city’s book of ordinances, both residential and business structures which have been assigned a street number must have the number visibly displayed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property.
