The launch of a new program called Healthy Texas is underway, according to Representative Mark Homer (D- Paris).
This statewide public/private partnership was established by the 81st Legislature through Senate Bill 78. The legislation was passed in an effort to address the concerns of small businesses in Texas who currently do not offer health insurance coverage for employees because of the rising cost. According to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI), 32 percent of Texas’ small businesses offer health insurance as opposed to 89 percent of Texas’ large employers.
“Small businesses are vital to the economy here in Northeast Texas, and the ability of a business to offer its employees the health insurance they need and deserve is imperative,” Rep. Homer said. For more information, see the Sept. 23 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
