Emotions filled the room as a plea of guilty was entered by Michelle Ramsey for the charge of first degree murder and evading arrest.
Ms. Ramsey entered her plea before Eighth Judicial District Judge Robert Newsom Monday, Feb. 14. The pleas came as more than 200 people began reporting as potential jurors for the case, had it proceeded to trial. Ms. Ramsey, age 45, had given a full confession of the incident shortly after her arrest the day of the shooting, Sept. 15, 2009.
“It has never been a case of whether or not she did it; it has been about Ms. Ramsey’s low IQ and because of it, believing she was trapped and felt the murder was her only out,” explained District Attorney Martin Braddy.
Ms. Ramsey shot her mother, Barbara Ramsey, age 69, in the head. See the Feb. 17 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for details on the case and sentencing.
