Stop Tar sands Oil Pipelines (STOP) will conduct three public hearings on the Keystone XL pipeline project. The hearing nearest to Franklin County will be in Winnsboro Friday, May 6.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the meeting room at the Winnsboro Depot, at the corner of Broadway and Hwy. 37.
In mid-April, the Department of State released a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) for the controversial Keystone XL pipeline. The public comment period will end June 6.
“The Department of State has issued the bare minimum 45 day comment period without any public hearings. This is an insult to the importance of public opinion,” said STOP Founder and President David Daniel.
STOP organizers have pledged to continue to be involved in informing the public of any new developments regarding this project. If any new events during the comment period are scheduled, the public will be notified.
“People have a right to intelligently make an informed decision regarding the new Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement. If there is anyone with anything to say about this project, now is the time to do it, “ stressed Mr. Daniel. For more details, see the May 5 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
