Precinct redistricting proposed by court

Print

The new boundaries for Franklin County’s four commissioner’s precincts were proposed at the Monday, July 25 meeting of the Franklin County Commissioners Court.
The new districts will add about 200 more people to Pct. 4 Commissioner Sam Young’s precinct. Those added to his territory will be taken away from Pct. 3 Commissioner Deryl Carr. A smaller portion of Pct. 2 Commissioner Donnie Surratt’s territory will be taken  and added to Pct. 3. Commissioner Danny Chitsey’s jurisdiction, Pct. 1, will remain unchanged. By law the commissioner’s precincts must be adjusted the first year after the Federal Census is conducted each decade. The population of each commissioner’s precinct must be within five percent over or under the total county population, divided by four. See the July 28 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for details on the changes.
