Landowners protect interests at meeting

Print

About a dozen Franklin County citizens attended the Thursday, July 28 meeting of the Ark-Tex Council of Governments Board of Directors meeting in Omaha. The citizen group made their second appearance at an ATCOG meeting with concerns over two proposed “beneficial land use permits” pending with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
“Until this thing is settled, we will attend every one of these meetings,” commented Mary McLennan. “It is the only way to protect our interests.”
The permits are being sought by Terra Renewal Services, Inc. They are proposing to spread sludge from various sources as fertilizer on two large tracts of land off FM 1896. For more information from the meeting, see the Aug. 4 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
