Investigation ongoing, Trampus suit moved

Print

An ongoing misconduct investigation was confirmed in connection with former City of Mount Vernon Public Works Director Andrew Trampus. Meanwhile, the wrongful termination suit brought by Mr. Trampus was moved to United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in Texarkana Friday, Aug. 26. The criminal investigation alleges misconduct through  Mr. Trampus’ use of city equipment, including a lawn mowing incident and use of a backhoe and dump truck on private property. The civil suit was filed July 27 by Mr. Trampus in the 62nd District Court. In it he named the City of Mount Vernon and both City Secretary Tina Rose and Mayor Pro Tem Saundra Dunn, in their individual capacities, as defendants in the suit. I don't buy this for one second. Only now, they decide to do a criminal investigation. Sounds to me that our City Council is trying too hard to take the spot light off themselves and covering up their mistake. As for you Optic Herald, you seem to be taking sides in this matter. Not very professional of you. Tell both sides of the story, or don't tell it at all.

RTA - The article in the paper stated that the investigation was started upon his dismissal, not after the suit was filed.

Well if you read the mount pleasant tribune, they quoted the Texas workforce commissions finding on his unemployement stating that the city of Mt Vernon couldnt prove that he was fired for misconduct. that was after the city appealed it as well. so if he is guilty, what is taking them so long and why are they just now coming forward nearly 3 months later and saying he is under criminal investigation. sounds like they are desperetaly reaching for anything to grab a hold to if you ask me. looks like our new city council isn't what they claimed to be after all. makes the last administration look pretty good now don't they? lol

You know, it's no wonder our fair City of Mt. Vernon is in the shape it's in. Who wants to be associated with a place, work hard, call it home, raise a family to watch it turn on you. Texas friendliest cities, my tail! I have lived here all my life and I have never seen such a thing. The City Council screwed up by not following their own rules and violating a City Employees CIVIL RIGHTS. Had they gone through proper channels as mandated by LAW this would not be happening, so to blame Mr. Trampus is not only a joke but stepping on his rights. Shame on the City for allowing something as mundane as a labor dispute to end up in FEDERAL COURT wasting my tax dollars. Give the poor man what is due to him and let us go back to being a sleepy little "nowhere" town. I'm embarrassed for myself and for Mt. Vernon. :(
