The Community Food Bank of Franklin County is struggling to meet the growing needs of local families and individuals. Through July, 2011, the food bank had already assisted the same number as throughout the entire 2010 year. “Through July, donations are only covering about 50 percent of the food expense,” organization president Dave Chaffin said. “It is a little scary to realize that if the Food Bank’s checking account is depleted there will be no other option than to stop the distribution of food.” For information on how to provide assistance, see the October 6 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
