Aiden Russell clings to his father as pre-kindergarten taecher, Susan Bass, tries to assure him that he will have a good day on his first day of classes at Mount Vernon Elementary School. Most of the children in the pre-kindergarten/kindergarten pod were ready for the first day of school. This year, 54 students were enrolled in pre-k on the first day of school and 128 students were enrolled in kindergarten.
