Caleb Hassell and Adonis McGill raised the most money for the annual Mount Vernon Intermediate School Hoops for Hearts event. Hassell earned $140 and McGill earned $127. The intermediate group raised a total of $1,458 the American Heart Association this year. Hoops for Heart is a  way to educate and encourage students to take care of their hearts through basketball activities. Sponsors for the event are physical education teachers Dana Bohlken, Mickey Hargrove, Amanda Simpson, Stephen Ladd and Brad Floyd.
