Superintendent John Kaufman announced that the Mount Vernon Independent School District earned a Superior rating under Texas’ schools’ Financial Accountability Rating System (FIRST) during the district’s board of trustee meeting on Monday, Oct. 17. This is the ninth consecutive year for the district to earn this top rating. The district received 77 points out of a possible 80. “The only area we did not get a top rating in was where we did not have enough debt per student,” Mr. Kaufman told the board. “Who would think that would be a negative?” For more details from the monthly board meeting, see the October 20 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
