Opening ceremonies for the 2011 season of the Franklin County Youth Baseball and Softball Association were conducted at the new Sports Complex on Friday, April 8.
More than 500 players and their parents packed the complex to take part in the ceremony and the official opening of the Sports Complex.
Franklin County Commissioners Danny Chitsey, Donnie Surratt, Darrell Carr, and Sam Young and Construction Manager Don Bohlken were honored for their efforts in making the Sports Complex a reality. Scott Newsome welcomed the crowd, Tony Hemby provided the invocation, Jessica Brunson, a 14-year old student at Mount Vernon Junior High, sang the National Anthem, and Steve Slaton threw out the first pitch.
