Laura Asimakis broke the girls pole vault record at A&M University - College Station at the college competition at San Diego State in March. The college senior is the granddaughter of Rena Asimakis and niece to Jean Ann Marshall, both of Mount Vernon.
Miss Asimakis’ vault of 13 feet 4.25 inches (4.07) was 3/4 of an inch better than the  previous school record of 13 feet 3.5 inches (4.05) set by Erica Boren in 2002. The vault tied her with University of California at Los Angeles’ Allison Koressel for first place in the meet. For more information, see the April 14 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
